introduction..
Hello dear traveller....
My name is Betty Fong(no relation to any Travel Agency) and I am the
creator of this homepage about nothing.
Well, just to give a short introduction...
My family consists of my father, mom, grandmother, two older
brothers, my little sister. .. and some goldfish.
My father works for Martin Sprocket and Gear as a Machine Operator.
He was a chemical engineer in China. My mom has a secretary job at
some State Department in the daytime, but at night, she transforms into
a student at Sacramento State College. My oldest brother studied
computer science & engineering but is now a "lowly" game tester for Maxis/
Electronic Arts. My 2nd oldest brother is currently working abroad in
Japan as a.. um.. hmm. I'm not sure.. mechanical engineer(?!) at the
American glass and plastics company Corning. He has monthly trips to
Taiwan. Business trips that is. My little sister is in 7th grade.
She is learning piano, trombone, and swimming. For some
reason, I feel that I will be the shortest of my siblings in the
future.. My grandmother watches TV most of the day.. She watches
the China television and rented Chinese movies. She also cooks, tends
the garden and seems to enjoy shopping for groceries.
Despite being king of lazy recently, I like to keep myself occupied.
Some hobbies I have are reading books/comics, drawing, playing
video games, growing plants, listening to music.
A recent comic that I read and
recommend is "The Sandman" written by Neil Gaiman. Its a story about
dreams and stories.. which reminds me of 2001 Nights. One of my
favourite "superheroes" is Moon Knight, which is from probably an
obsure comic that most people never heard of.
The last books I read are George Orwell's "1984" and Phillip Goldstein's
"Wonders of Parasites".
The last video game I've played is "Madou Monogatari" on this PC,
and "Phantasy Star Online version 2" on Nintendo's Game Cube. My
character is named "Schezo:coli", has short light blue hair, wears a
black robe, and is a cross between a hunter and a force(sorcerer).
I don't really watch TV much. As they say, TV is really poison.
Sometimes I watch it for news.. but I like reading news better...
especially reading a paper newspaper.. I hate it when you watch news
for news, but they just have so many commercials so that you have to
wait for a long time until they show what you want to see. That is
their secret tactic for making you watch the programme.
The music I usually listen to is rock and classical music. I didn't
grow up in a family that listens to popular music. I don't have radio
right now, so I am not familiar with the current popular music. In
fact, its quite fortunate this year that I have more than a lamp
and a CD player with speakers. I have my own pass-me-down computer
that has a 5" floppy drive and a 28.8k modem. I like many rock bands
but the ones I like tend to break up or have a member that dies.
I also have an obsession for the cute, occult, and strange. For
example, I like some of the Japanese characters and goods. I don't
really like Hello Kitty and many of the regular Sanrio characters
though. I like some more obscure ones that seem to be missing in the
US: Atsugari-san, Samugari-san ("Mr. afraid of heat" and "Mr. Afraid
of cold"), Umi-nin (Sea person), Qoo (Coca Cola soft drink mascot),
Emily Strange, Momomin Valley (I really like this one, it seems to
have European origins but lots of Japanese goods)
I like to read about mythology and ancient civilizations such as
Ancient Egypt, Greece, and China.
I'm a recent graduate from UCLA with BS degree in "the study of
life".. or should I say "biology".
Well, I guess its ironic that I am studying life, but I haven't much
clue about what I should do in my life or whats the purpose of life..
Currently, I'm doing volunteer work helping my graduate student
roommate in her research. To be more specific, I do various things
such as preparing buffers or solutions, preparing PCR, some chromatography,
running gel electrophoresis.. taking photo of gels..
I'm also looking for a job related to biology. Please contact me for
