~MALICE*MIZER~ no MANA-san v. 1.1 :1999.oct.1999

This a super deformed picture of Mana, the guitarist of the visual rock band Malice Mizer! The costume is influenced by what he sometimes wear, especially his "Merveilleux" period, where he was a moth and had big wings! Mana-san always dresses in blue. His costumes are always very nice! The mask represents malice mizer or "malicious tragedy".
[v. 1.0] Link to the original version that i put up in front of my door.. Don't mind the black 3.5" disks in the back ground.. i needed something dark so you can see the texture of the tissue paper ("kleenex")..
Here is another version, using "paint daubs" effect in Adobe photoshop: [v.1.2] It looks sort of like a light watercolour painting.
TOOLS: pencil, eraser, black pen, Crayola colour pencils

~endless rain~ :2000.Jan.15

Another picture of Mana-san of visual rock band Malice Mizer! I like to draw Mana-san because i like his fashion. I designed this costume with a matching umbrella/parasol.. .. This is a picture that was on a Christmas card!
TOOLS: pencil, eraser, black pen, crayola + rose art colour pencils

...yeah. Another fan art of Mana-san. no.. i'm not a very big Mana fan, but i really like his fashion. I hope to go to his produced clothes store "Moi-meme-moi-tete" or something like that in Tokyo! :D His current appearance is similar to this.. dark purple hair.. blue rose.
To tell you the truth, this was a very fast sketch.. perhaps less than 45 seconds.. without any pencil outline.. I was even holding the pen slopply..like a Chinese paint brush!! This piece of paper was a left over from finishing my new door illustration. I was thinking to not waste it and quickly doodle something before throwing it away. That is the reason its so sketch-like.. Of course, it turned out better than i thought it would be.. especially after throwing in some colour!.. The black circle on the bottom right is actually a hole.. It was on scratch paper! :D I like his ice cold stare...

~cw drawing II 14.10.2000

.. no no.. this is not supposed to be Mana-san! I drew this at Comic World.. which they supplied the markers.. This *was* supposed to be the vocalist of the visual rock band "Eliphas Levi".. However, because of the limited colour section of markers, I had to resort to use blue instead! Just try to think all the blue in the picture to be dark red instead... else.. you would say "wow!! another picture of Mana-san!: (sweat drop rolling down) This is the edited version.. why? well, i can't use markers very well.. so the coloured skin has blotches of light and dark. I used Adobe Photoshop to clean it up! [le*originale]

atropos and suezo

Characters from Mamoru Nagano's Five Star Stories.. I made this painting for an art class in eigth grade! So its quite old.. but i still like it. The assignment was supposed to make the water colours spread out with water.. . I tried to do that for Atropos' hair and the clouds of the background..
TOOLS: pencil, Marie's watercolours (from China), Chinese paint brushes, .. i don't really remember..

Amaterasu (for Anime Sacramento club newsletter) :2000.jan.15

A Character from Mamoru Nagano's Five Star Stories.. I made a very rough sketch on scratch paper then i copied it to a clean white paper.. Drawing on scratch paper is not that good sometimes though.. I really hate it when i draw something good and i need to transfer it to a clean sheet of paper.. I was surprised how this drawing turned out quite well.. My hands always shake when inking the drawing!!! And i had to do improvisation when inking the hair.. I did mess up in some spots... but that is OK... The hair is so detailed!! BTW, the banner to the left is actually another sheet of paper that i taped on!! My hands were really shaking when i was writing the letters....
TOOLS: pencil, black ink pen, eraser..

Aya sketch : 2000.apr.03

Sketch of Fujimiya Aya (or Ran -_-..) of the radio drama>manga>anime Weiss Kreuz. I really like the character designs by Tsuchiya Kyoko.. you can see her own homepage in my link section... so.. here is my attempt to draw one of the characters.. As you may have noticed, this is the same character as the picture that i put in the [moi] section! Aya is an assassin and part time flower shop worker.. @_@.. don't ask! I don't really like the anime that much..but the manga is good..
This picture is quite "old" too. I started on the sketch (on scratch paper!! -_-..) during the summer of 1999, but left it aside (laziness, and frustration on clothing design! needing research on katana!)until spring vacation of 2000.. I had to copy the drawing to a new clean sheet of paper.. i cheated by putting the sketch and paper on the window glass and traced the lines on the new paper! :D:D hehe. I also drew a page of complete character sketch.. full body, side view, back view, accessories.. and did the research on katanas! That made it much easier to draw his clothes..especially when you know how the clothes look like.. even if the real drawing shows only part of it. its a lot of work however,. but it was fun doing the designs. [click here] Still, i have trouble drawing the cloth folds.. the cloth looks quite stiff! @_@.. I now need to ink it.. i hope i don't ruin the picture!! Then hopefully colour it.. @_@ ..

gally -November 23, 1993-

This is an old painting that i did using watercolours and one of my first major work. I was quite happy with the results. I really like how "Zalem", the floating world turned out with translucent clouds covering it. However, I haven't touched any watercolours for a very long. For this painting, i first drew a sketch on a separate piece of paper then i had to copy it to the construction paper, which i painted on.

I found out that there was an electric pencil sharpener in my roommate's lab! So on one weekend, I brought my run-down box of crayola colour pencils and sharpened all of them! They were all quite dull.. I had the pencils since high school.. thats at least 6 years old! This set has one of my favourite colors not available in the new crayola colour pencil sets: yellow orchid! ANyway, I was bored after sharpening my pencils so I just sketched the character using light brown and quickly lightly filled in the background. .. Some weeks later, I found the drawing again, and it didn't look very good when scanned. The colours were way too light! So I had to add more and more colour.. until it is quite vibrantly coloured! Not so shabby after not colouring anything after so many years, eh? :D

I was kind of bored waiting for my roommate in her lab in the molecular science building. I noticed that she had a free marker thing of some company. Its the terribly designed kind that is in the shape of a triangle, and each corner is a marker tip. Well, that marker had the colors red, blue, and white. I assumed the white was to "erase" the other colors.. So i asked my roommate if i can just test it.. I got out my computer lab scratch paper and quickly drew what was on the tip of my mind! I just drew this guy here up to his shoulders with a black ball point pen found in the empty desk. But how to color with red or blue? Well, i certainly didn't want to make it "patriotic" by making him an "American" Newman in "American" flag colors! :D :D :D I decided to just fill in the clothes color with the ball point pen instead! So after that, my roommate wasn't still done, so i got out a pencil and sketched the rest of the body really quick, inked it in, and colored it. Finally, was my real test! To erase some of the colors, such as the shiny parts of the hair. Boy was I surprised that instead of clearing the red, it was only partially cleared: it left a *yellow* line. Doing the same to the blue merely left a *light blue*.. . interesting. I initially thought that this was a highlighter, but nope! My verdict is that this marker is designed terribly. Its hard to control your lines when you are awkwardly grasping the triangular body. And, the white is to change the color, not to erase it. Oh well, it was a quick and fun one done in about 15 min.
TOOLS: black ballpoint pen, Roommate's freebie company marker, pencil, eraser.

[PSO/puyo]Arle Nadja in caves2 :2003summer

My first attempt in using adobe photoshop to color in a drawing! It turned out much better than expected.. The original drawing is actually very small.. maybe 10 cm. Because of my lack of skill in using Adobe Photoshop, I had to even resort to asking my cousin Fung Leeens for help!! (sigh) The part that actually took the most time is cleaning up the lines. geez, it took hours!! And it was so hot sitting there clicking away with a mouse.. . The Wand she is holding is drawn in Photoshop because the original drawing was not that great! :D Drawing the two ends of the wand also took a bloody long time.. then I had to think of a good pattern to draw on it.. I decided on an easy "mitsubishi" or three diamond design.. just connect the lines!! My mom says she liked the background the best.. but... the background was done quite fast.. I couldn't really think of what do draw for the background! Oh well, I learned a lot on using Photoshop. but I still can't get the technique on how to get realistic cel shading.. .
TOOLS: Black ink pen, Adobe Photoshop 5.5

northern spring : 2000.jan.15

This is the character called "HOKUTO" from the Capcom 3-D fighting game Street Fighter EX. As you might tell, the background is influenced by Chinese paintings... I used to take Chinese painting classes and painted lots of cherry blossoms (or sakura).... I also drew this picture on a card... However, she looks quite different from her original character design somehow... my style of drawing makes her look different.. Anyway, i drew this picture on a Christmas card for someone.

billy cane-chan!! :1999.oct.23

This is Billy from SNK's fighting game series. This is his outfit in King of Fighter's 95!! He wears an overall with the British flag symbol in the front.. really!! He also wears the white and red striped bandanna! :D haha.. He is one of my favourite characters, despite the fact that he is one of the "bad guys". His weapon is the red bo (stick).. This picture is actually a parody of the "Monkey King", who wears the golden head band (like in the picture! :D) and carries his red stick!! He is from the famous Chinese novel "Journey to the West" (translation) and has been made into many movies.. in fact, many Japanese know about it.. for example, "Dragon Ball" started as a version of "Journey to the West"!! :D This is also an "old" picture.. probably some time in late 1998.
